- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 8-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix and the orange gelatin mix until they are well mixed.
- Incorporate the orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest into the dry mixture. Beat everything together until smooth and fully combined.
- Evenly distribute the batter between the two prepared cake pans.
- Place the cakes in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- After baking, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
For the frosting, beat the softened butter in a bowl until it becomes fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined.
- Mix in the heavy cream and orange extract (if using), and continue to beat the mixture until it is smooth and creamy.
- Frost the top of the first cake layer, then carefully place the second layer on top. Apply frosting to the entire cake.
- Slice the cake and serve it, then enjoy!
